The woods by Huron are something you should really try to avoid. Many people get caught for skipping class and for doing illegal activities, if you have a head on your shoulders, you'll stay out of the woods.

Driving and Parking
So you got a new car? Great congratulations, but did you notice those yellow and green stickers on everybody's windshield? Parking passes at Huron currently cost $65. That $65 buys you any parking spot you please that is not marked by staff or visitor signs providing that you can get one. So many kids drive to school it seems almost impossible to find a parking spot walking distance to the school. Recently, our school has went on a rampage about students not parking where they are supposed to. Tow trucks frequent Huron now. Some tips to make sure you get your spot without getting towed:
- Get to school as early as possible. The earlier you get there the closer your spot.
- BUY A PARKING PASS. Don't wait until the end of the year then it will be a waste.
- Don't park in visitor, staff, or handicap spaces. Unless you are handicap... or staff... or a visitor.
Grades
Stay focus on your grades. Good grades are what let you into a good college. Good grades, equals good GPA, equals good college. Also try avoiding turning things in late, almost every teacher will take points off just for being late. Always stud for a test, you can never be too prepared!
Traditions
Senior pranks, pep rallies, and our good ol' mascot the river rat are all parts of Hurons traditions. Our football record may not be great, but we still have spirit! During the football season excitement lingers as the pep rally approaches. School spirit is important and shown throughout spirit week. On the day of the homecoming game kings and queens are crowed in the same event as pie eating contests. It is pure insanity as classes compete in shouting matches to gain respect. Throughout the school year there isn't much action until the seniors start pranking .Pranks don't get too wild, however, they are very clever.
Class Selection
Picking and choosing classes can be very difficult with the plethora of options. Many students get confused and quit without seeing the hidden gems of course selection. Career pathways, new hobbies, interests, and challenges lurk between the narrow corridor of the basic requirements. Have no fear if there is a will there is a way. Here is a list of strategies to ease the anxiety when picking courses:
- Take into consideration your interests instead of only fulfilling requirements.
- Try a challenging course, such as AP or AC, to boost your intelligence and beautify your transcript.
- Languages, Visual, and Applied Arts are your friend. Although public speaking or Spanish seem useless courses like these improve your confidence, understanding, and overall outlook.
Teachers/ Staff
Your teachers and counselors are there for you. If you have any questions or need someone to talk to, go talk to them. They are very good at keeping secrets, but keep in mind, if you tell them that you're getting harmed or are doing illegal activities, they are obligated to tell an administrator.
Hallways
The hallways are always crowded during passing time. If you stand in the hallway you will get pushed by others trying to get to class on time. So don't stand in the way, and don't be late to class!
Sports and Clubs
Lockers
Most people find it easier to not use their locker and just carry things with them such as their lunch, a text book, and a small jacket. During the winter is really the only ideal time to use your locker to put your coat in. Your locker is also helpful to store a few text books that you will need often.
